The EEL

Identification: Protruding lower Jaw, Dorsal and Anal fins are continuous around the tail.

Lifespan: up to 25 years

Habitat: Any Freshwater Fishery

Common Methods: Deadbaiting and Ledgering

Best Baits: Roach and Lobworms

The EEL has a very interesting life as a fish, After 8 - 13 years in freshwater the EEL Sets of towards the sea,The Eyes enlarge, It changes colour and it then becomes what Sea Anglers call the Silver EEL. Then the EEL sets of on a 5 moth journey through Deep-Water and surfaces in the Sargasso Sea area of the North Atlantic, Where it spawns shortly before it dies.

The young elvers then take some 4 years to travel back to Freshwater and start the cycle all over again.
